January 2011
Hello and welcome to Manchester Off Road Club's first newsletter. These newsletters will be posted every three months and will update and inform all our members of upcoming events, which include our own events, those arranged by the Glossop 4x4 Club and any national events as well.
Not only is the newsletter a new part of the club we are also considering relocating the pub meeting to a new, mutually convenient venue, easily accessible to all existing and new members, without having to drive too far to attend.
At the new venue we are hoping to reminisce with a selection of videos from the past and some more recent escapades. Please bear in mind that as a small club it looks a bit poor if we only have a small turn out. At times only a handful of people have turned up at the pub meet, only five on one occasion. Unfortunately, this coincided with two potential new members arriving to enquire about the group, sadly they never returned.
Also new for 2011 we are planning to run two trials classes; one for smaller 4x4's such as Suzukis and the other for larger 4x4's such as Land Rovers to ensure that every driver is able to compete fairly against other members. Class 1 4x4s will have a wheel base of 87'' or less and class 2 will have a wheel base of 88'' or more. 4x4s with a wheel base of 100'' or more will be allowed one shunt.
You will also find enclosed a membership renewal form and a calendar detailing the new season's activities. Please return your form using the pre-paid envelope provided and a membership card will be sent to you along with a couple of club stickers by return post. Alternatively, your renewal form can be handed in at the January pub meet, together with the membership fee of £20.
You may be wondering why we are making a number of changes to the club but we feel strongly that if it is to have a future then this involves us all making an effort to attend every pub meet and also every event when possible, even if you are unable to compete.
The next pub meet is scheduled to be held at 8.30pm on Tuesday 18th January and is to be held at the usual venue, the Friendship Inn in Romiley. The main topic under discussion will be suggestions for a potential new venue and any other ideas that may improve the club's popularity amongst existing and new members alike. All suggestions will be taken into consideration and any changes will be determined by a show of hands.
That just about covers it for now but if you have any comments about the website or the club, please make your voice heard via the forum on the club website, www.manchesteroffroadclub.com where you will also find many photos via the Flickr Page.
All that remains to say is Happy New Year and all the best for 2011 and we look forward to seeing you all at the next pub meet.
